Because of itīs size and its mighty crown the elk is called "the king of the forest" in sweden. They are worthy of all respect. The weight of a female elk are 270 to 360 kilo and the weight of a male elk can be between 380 and 540 kilo. Due to the harsh climate the elks in Lapland are normally bigger than those who live more south.
To survive in northern sweden you need a vital tribe. Reindeer, roe deer and elk all got just that, the week gets picked of during the harsh winters. The bear population are growing and they deserve respect when they wake up hungry in the spring. You can also find beaver, hare, squirrels, otter, pine marten, mink, stoat, wolverine, badger, lynx, red fox and a few wolves. To find some of these animals you need a good knowledge about the animal and their habitat, alot of them lives on the same place from year to year.
